Delayed Trials for Abusers

Why are trials for those accused of and/or having confessed to sexual crimes against children delayed for years, sometimes for decades????!!!!!

When a crime is committed by a person with a mental disorder, there are facilities where they can be housed , medicated and assessed

They are under guard so they cannot escape. They are considered a possible danger to themselves and/ or others” Their ultimate release from the hospital/prison is determined by a Review Board made up of medical professionals

Why is there not a similar program for those convicted of the most heinous crime of child molestation? These people continue to be a danger because of their compulsions, even though some of them may be pillars of the community and loving family members

The disease of child molestation is seldom reported and sometimes continue on into the next generation

Sexual abusers are often hunted down and murdered by fellow inmates when jailed

That kind of justice may be considered deserved by some but even in jail murder is murder.

There needs to be a safer place to house the perpetrators and , even more importantly, a safe, peaceful environment for their victims. They should not be free to walk around amongst their victims for long periods of times because of delays in sentencing,

I have known people, both male and female, who have molested children. Knowledge of what was done was kept secret partly because  the shame of it affected  family members and in some cases, entire neighborhoods. Such a betrayal of trust from an otherwise “decent’ person is hard to fathom

I know some people disagree when I refer to sexual predators as suffering from a “disease” but what else can you call it? It is not normal but it is not a mental disorder, so I think it has to be considered a disease, as are drug and alcohol addiction,   These kind of diseases adversely affect so many adults and especially children in our communities. The victims of childhood molestation sometimes even grow up to be molesters themselves

Who knows, even powerful people in the past such as Adolf Hitler may have been sexually abused as a child.

The psychological effects stay with the victims every day of their lives. I still carry anxiety and guilt triggered by the actions of a female babysitter from when I was a small child.
