I have often wished the general public could understand that schizophrenia is a disease, not a character flaw. And it is not caused by a specific happening in their lives. It can strike anyone, usually a young person whose brain chemical compilation – for whatever reason – becomes disordered. Schizophenia has been categorized as a mental illness but is recently being recategorized as a nuerological disease. Perhaps people will now understand that the sufferer is not responsible for his/her disease.

Why doesn’t schizophrenia hail
Higher on the compassion scale?
Phycoses symptoms don’t include
Blood that’s oozing from a wound
Fever, cramps and severed limbs
Diseases with prognoses grim
We cannot SEE a mind
Reacting
To sights and sounds
That are distracting
Voices shouting in their ear
Demanding
Bullying
Creating
Fear
Delusions distort
Reality
Too many suffer
Anonymously
