My entire life has been about striving to make others happy and maintaining friendships. Now that I’m 87 I realise there are people who do not need me to be their friend, they are doing quite well in their own lives. Their interests do not coincide with my own strongly held convictions and they are perfectly happy to do their own thing. I am free. I do not have to conform. I am free to be me. I still have friends in walks of life that are different from my own. They respect me and my views. I respect them and their views. It is wonderful to count people with different views from my own as friends.
